Air Quality Management

air pollutionClean air is essential for a good quality of life and contributes to making Bristol a healthy and pleasant place to live.

In Bristol the main threat to clean air is posed by traffic emissions. The City Council's Environment Team based at the CREATE Centre monitor air quality throughout the city. The city has declared an Air Quality Management Area covering much of the central part of Bristol and have developed an Air Quality Action Plan to improve air quality. The City Council regulates a range of smaller industrial processes with larger processes being regulated by the Environment Agency.

Initiatives helping to reduce air pollution throughout the city include the Bristol City Car Club and Bristol's designation as England's first cycling city.

A broad range of groups and companies currently service this sector, offering a range of air quality management solutions. Particularly notable in Bristol are the Coldharbour Road based Air Quality Consultants and the Air Quality Management Resource Centre, at the University of the West of England, Bristol who are internationally recognised for their leadership in AQM.
